Restorative Freedom Curriculum

A relationship-centered reentry program that helps people come home with accountability, support, and practical skills.

Restorative Freedom is an online, 10-week, 8-module cohort-based reentry program developed in partnership with formerly incarcerated reentry leaders to support people returning home. It focuses on relationship-centered skills — including emotional skills, resilience, and readiness — and is currently being evaluated in partnership with Cal State Fullerton and The Last Mile. Participants learn alongside peers, receive mentoring from coaches with lived experience, and can invite key family members into support sessions designed to strengthen the transition home.

What We Offer

  • A structured curriculum delivered as an 8-module e-book with companion videos
  • Live cohort support through Zoom group coaching sessions for participants
  • Family support through Zoom group coaching sessions for family members
  • 1:1 peer mentoring through multiple Zoom sessions per participant, with mentors who have lived experience of reentry
  • Practical wraparound features: tech support as needed, a certificate upon completion, and a pathway for graduates to train and potentially become paid mentors

Who Is It For?

We work with reentry providers and partner organizations serving people preparing to return home or newly home — and with participants and families who want practical tools for communication, relationships, accountability, and reintegration.

Outcomes

Restorative Freedom is designed to support the “real life” challenges of reentry — including fear of being re-incarcerated, loneliness, feeling overwhelmed, and navigating expectations. Program outcomes and skills include:

  • Understanding and regulating emotions
  • Enhanced empathy and compassion for oneself and others
  • Better management of choices and behaviors
  • Identifying and avoiding high-risk situations and crafting a relapse prevention plan
  • Stronger communication to get needs met
  • Increased self-confidence and readiness for reintegration

When Restorative Approaches Work Best

Restorative Freedom works best when participants can engage consistently with the cohort and are supported to practice skills between sessions. The program is designed to build readiness, strengthen relationships, and support reintegration — and it does not replace clinical treatment, legal counsel, or crisis response.
