Transformative Mediation Program

at San Quentin State Prison

The Transformative Mediation Program is a conflict resolution program at San Quentin State Prison where conflicts between prisoners are addressed and resolved utilizing the skills of trained fellow-prisoners and outside volunteers. Trainees receive an initial 64- hour training in various types of alternative dispute resolution (ADR), similar to ADR trainings available to the general public.

This program is for individuals or groups within the prison who are in conflict with each other, who wish to resolve their conflict(s) using alternative resolution approaches and non-violent practices. The foundation of this program is based in transformative and restorative justice and emotional intelligence.
